I thank the member for Belmont for
attending at the Perth Stadium train station yesterday. What an exciting
project. I believe we are doing something out there that this state can be very
proud of. This will be the second largest station in Perth, and it will have
six fully covered platforms for the patrons of Western Australia. It has the
capacity to stow 117 railcars. We will be shifting out 28 000 people within the
first hour after any event that occurs at the stadium.
The government has short-listed
three proponents for the construction of the station, and it did so in October 2014.
I will announce in the coming weeks which consortia will construct the station
and associated railway infrastructure for a cost estimated to be around $100 million.
Demolition of the former Belmont Park station is about to start, and the
construction of the station will start later this year. I am really looking
forward to this. I believe this, coupled with the stadium, is an exciting
development for this state and something we can all be very, very proud of.
