(1) Has the Department of Agriculture and Food conducted any trials of genetically modified canola in the past four years? (2) If so, where were these trials carried out? (3) The proposed 2009 genetically modified canola trials will be undertaken by the grains industry. The Department of Agriculture and Food has an overseeing role in approval, auditing and monitoring of all these trials. Two of the possible 20 trial sites will be on Department of Agriculture and Food research stations. (4) Due to costs and associated issues, the department has had no reason to access or focus on the technology in recent years.
