Australind Upgrade
The information requested was provided to the Member in Part 8 of my response to Question on Notice 3290.
Track Upgrade
WestNet Rail is planning to complete resleepering of the railway between Pinjarra and Brunswick during the period September 2008 to July 2009 at an estimated cost of $54 million. Completion of these works will mean that speed restrictions currently in place will be lifted and the severity of hot weather speed restrictions will be less. See also Part (3) of my response to Question on Notice 3289.

Australind Upgrade
Work is planned to commence in July 2008 and finish in June 2010. See Part (8) of my response to Question on Notice 3290.

Australind services will not be disrupted
Track Upgrade
Upgrading of the track will result in the morning Australind service not operating on week days. Under the arrangements established by the Coalition Government when it privatised the rail network, Westnet Rail has established its work window (between 0630 and 1200 hours) taking into account the requirements of all operators. This is consistent with WestNet's Train Management Guidelines, which were approved by the Access Regulator, which while requiring WestNet to consult and use its best endeavours to provide an alternative train path, give WestNet the ultimate power to determine the work window.
A public briefing is planned to be jointly undertaken by the PTA and WestNet Rail in Bunbury for all interested parties.
Replacement Road coach services will operate in lieu of the morning Australind services. They are planned to arrive in Perth as close as possible to the scheduled arrival time of the Australind so as to minimise the impact on passengers using the morning Australind service to Perth.
