I thank the member for Perth for the excellent job he does in representing Northbridge and, indeed, all his electorate. Members will be well aware that this Government has significantly improved funding for police operations. I am pleased to again inform the House of the dividends that this is starting to pay. Over the past week, the Police Service has conducted a crackdown in Northbridge codenamed Operation Hard Drive 2. It is part of an ongoing police operation. I am pleased to announce that from this operation a total of 117 people have been arrested and apprehended. This includes 71 people charged with more than 100 offences and 46 juveniles taken off the street under the Child Welfare Act. Of concern is the seriousness of the charges. One person was found in possession of a stun-gun and was charged with being armed in public to cause terror. Other charges relate to aggravated burglary, stealing and drugs. Our Government is committed to high-profile policing. These operations will be ongoing to target hot spots throughout the metropolitan area. In the House last week I was very pleased to comment on Operation Crossover - a police initiative that took place across all metropolitan police districts. It was a three-week operation that targeted volume crime and recidivist offenders. Police targeted 20 main offenders in each of the six metropolitan police districts with spectacular results. I am now informed that as part of that operation, $820 000 worth of stolen goods has been recovered. By the time the operation was completed, a total of 322 people were arrested for 977 offences. I congratulate the officers involved in both operations. On behalf of the community of Western Australia, it is pleasing that the increased operational funding is allowing the police to achieve results.
