WOMEN'S AND
BABIES' HOSPITAL — RELOCATION
1380. Hon BEN DAWKINS to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Health:
I refer to the decision to locate
the new Perth women's and babies' hospital at the Fiona Stanley
Hospital site despite concerns raised by various experts.
(1) Did the
government consider building the new women's and babies'
hospital across the road from Perth Children's Hospital in Kings Park,
by changing the boundaries of Kings Parks and amending the Botanic Gardens and
Parks Authority Act 1998, and offsetting the lost bushland by establishing
another reserve somewhere in the metropolitan area?
(2) If no to (1),
why not?
(3) If yes to
(1), why was this option not pursued?

(1)–(3) No.
Kings Park and Botanic Garden is an A-class reserve with the highest level of
protection available to crown land under Western Australian law. The location
of the new women's and babies' hospital at the Fiona Stanley
Hospital precinct will achieve co-location with tertiary adult intensive care
services and important paediatric and neonatology services.
