CITY OF PERTH — MINISTER FOR LOCAL
GOVERNMENT'S COMMENTS
322. Mr D.A. TEMPLEMAN to the Minister
for Local Government:
I have a supplementary question. Is
the minister not refusing to intervene in this turmoil and mess —
Mr
A.J. Simpson : What do you suggest I do?
The
SPEAKER : Just hold it a minute. Right—supplementary.
Mr
D.A. TEMPLEMAN : Is the minister not refusing to intervene in this turmoil
and mess that is the City of Perth council because it is a Liberal-controlled
council; and, if that is not the reason —
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Thank you! I want to hear this in silence.
Mr
D.A. TEMPLEMAN : Is the minister not refusing to intervene in this mess and
this turmoil that is the City of Perth because it is a Liberal-controlled
council; and, if that is not the reason, what is the reason the minister is not
interfering?

I can only restate what I said
before. At the end of the day, I do not really care which way the council —
Mr
D.A. Templeman : Are you protecting the council?
Mr
A.J. SIMPSON : I am not protecting anyone, member. I am not protecting
anyone.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Mandurah, you have been called to order twice, and I have
been very lenient on you. If you carry on shouting, I will call you three
times. If you carry on shouting, you will have a rest.
Mr
A.J. SIMPSON : I am following the Local Government Act to the T. I am
following everything that is involved in that process. The department has
advised me of that. We have to go through this process. As I stated in the
answer to the question before, I have put the council on notice. What is more
important for me is to make sure that those councillors provide good services
to the ratepayers.
