CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY — ELECTRIC VEHICLES
270. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to the answer to question
without notice 96 asked in February in which the minister stated that the
McGowan government has —
 commenced a wide range of
climate-related initiatives, including measures to accelerate the uptake of
electric vehicles
(1) What are
these measures?
(2) Have these
measures already been implemented; and, if not, when does the minister expect
them to be implemented?
(3) How does the
minister intend to measure the success of the measures in accelerating the
uptake of electric vehicles?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) To
accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles in Western Australia, the McGowan
government signed a memorandum of
understanding alongside other state governments that are members of the Climate
Action Roundtable. An electric vehicle working group was established,
chaired by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, to progress
this issue and report to government. It includes membership from state
government agencies, utilities, local government and industry. The Western Australian
electric vehicle working group is currently assessing the cost benefit of a range
of policies and incentives to encourage and facilitate the uptake of electric
vehicles in Western Australia. The Western Australian electric vehicle working
group expects that it will provide preliminary findings and recommendations for
government consideration by the end of 2019. The government will determine how
best to measure success once it has considered the working group's
recommendations.
