I was very pleased to read a media release issued by the Tourism Council Western Australia today, and I will read it for the benefit of members. It states - The latest three events in the Best on Earth in Perth calendar have provided an early Christmas present for the tourism industry. The influx of international sporting teams, media and supporters has resulted in 100% hotel occupancies and high tour loadings over the past week and the good news looks set to continue with the holiday season approaching and more big events on the way. It continues - “We congratulate the State Government on their commitment to these world class events which not only attract a significant number of spectators but boost the Western Australian economy and promote the state as a desirable tourism destination,” . . . There are many other such reports. I could read the recent newspaper report in which the Managing Director of the Perth Convention Bureau indicated that convention bookings were going through the roof, or I could read other newspaper reports commending the Government for regional tourism. However, I will not bore members with them today; I will save them for another opportune time when the Opposition dares to raise its head again because I will knock it off immediately.
