DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING — KEYSTART —
ECONOMIC REGULATION AUTHORITY REPORT
315. Mr F.M. LOGAN to the Minister for Housing:
I draw the minister's
attention to the report of the microeconomic reform inquiry by the Economic
Regulation Authority, and in particular its recommendation to scrap the
Keystart homeowners program.
(1) Is the
Western Australian home building industry right when it says that the ERA
recommendation would have a disastrous impact on the first home buyer market?
(2) Does the
minister accept the ERA inquiry statement that the level of Keystart lending
poses a ''risk'' to the WA government?

get the information from my department, I will —
Mrs M.H. Roberts interjected.
Mr
W.R. MARMION : I have been advised of shortcomings in the ERA report. When I
get a more detailed report on the specifics of the shortcomings, I will seek a
meeting with Lyndon Rowe, which I normally would do, and get more details.
Mr

Mr
W.R. MARMION : I am trying to answer the question, but there are so many
interjections from the usual suspects that I cannot.
I have no intention of making any
changes to the very successful government Keystart program. It is a fundamental
platform and element of our housing affordability strategy. However, if there
are ways in which we can improve it, I will certainly be happy to talk to Dr Lyndon
Rowe to find out what they are.
