STATE BUDGET — DEFICIT — PREMIER'S
COMMENTS
992. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Considering that the Premier
signed Western Australia up to the goods and services tax deal and he was
warned about the volatility of iron ore prices, why does he blame everyone and
everything else for his ravenous spending addiction?

I think the GST was the right tax measure for Australia;
no-one could have anticipated the inequalities that occurred. But for the
record, I did not sign the agreement. I did not have anything to do with it. I
did not sign it.
