The Department of Housing and Works advises
a) 26 as at 31 January 2008.
b) 9 applications, as at 31 January 2008, are on the waiting list for the preference area of Capel. This preference area includes the following towns: Capel, Capel River, Elgin, Forrest Beach, Gwindinup, North Boyanup, Peppermint Grove Beach, Stirling Estate, Stratham and The Plains.
c) There are two four bedroom properties within the Capel preference, one within the Capel townsite and one within the preference area of Capel. There are 179 within the South West region.
d to f) In 2007 the Department acquired a site at Lot 31 French Street, Capel and preliminary drawings have been completed for a mixed-use complex. The site should yield, subject to local government approval, 2 x two-bedroom family units, 4 x two-bedroom seniors' units and 2 x two-bedroom seniors generic mobility units. Upon completion it will house new applicants and tenants from the under-occupied three-bedroom properties, which will then be offered to family applicants.
As part of the State Government's commitment to invest $655 million in affordable and social housing, including delivering at least 1124 extra social housing dwellings, the Department is acquiring and constructing additional stock, including four bedroom accommodation within the South West region.
