463. Hon KATE DOUST to the
Minister for Commerce:
I refer to the
recent case of a Jan De Nul Group worker who had travelled from Singapore on
the JDN vessel Fernao and was staying
at the Fortescue Metals Group camp in South Hedland, and who contracted
legionnaire's disease.
(1) When did
WorkSafe find out about the outbreak of legionnaire's disease?
(2) What was the
immediate response of WorkSafe?
(3) What measures did WorkSafe take to
ensure that the employer eradicated all signs of the disease from all working
and lodging environments?
(4) What measures did WorkSafe take to
ensure that all employees who were at risk of contracting the disease were
informed and made aware of the potential risks?

(1) WorkSafe was notified that an individual had contracted legionnaire's disease on 10 February
2014.
(2) WorkSafe sought
further information.
(3)–(4) WorkSafe
liaised with the Department of Health, which was the lead government agency.
