METRONET
560. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the enormous $1.7 billion
increase to the capital cost of Metronet announced in last week's state
budget.
(1) What proportion of this
additional funding will be covered by the commonwealth government?
(2) Why,
considering the election of the Albanese Labor government in May last year, had
a definite agreement on co-funding not been reached prior to the release of
both governments' budgets?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The
2023–24 state budget allocates $5.9 billion towards Metronet, which is
being delivered in partnership with the Albanese Labor government. Both the
McGowan Labor government and the Albanese federal government are committed to
the delivery of Metronet, which is transforming the way people get around our
suburbs, reducing congestion and creating thousands of jobs.
