(1) Will the minister advise whether one purpose of the proposed Pinjar-Cataby, Cataby-Eneabba and Eneabba-Geraldton transmission line is to provide power for a proposed aluminium smelter at Oakajee? (2) If there is to be a proposed aluminium smelter at Oakajee, from where would the aluminium be sourced? (3) If there is a proposed aluminium smelter, will the minister provide any information on this project, including the requirement of enormous qualities of cheap electricity and whether any assessment has been done on the availability of water for industrial purposes from the already fully allocated Arrowsmith ground water area? Hon TOM STEPHENS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. I hope the following reply is of some assistance to the member.  If it is not, perhaps she could advise in what way I could further assist. (1) No. (2) Decisions concerning sources of alumina for a smelter located at Oakajee are commercial decisions for the company concerned. (3) As this question concerns responsibilities for the Minister for State Development, it needs to be directed to that minister.
