I have a supplementary question. Will the minister provide me tomorrow with an answer to the question that I asked today, bearing in mind that it will take him a little time to get the answer. The answer he gave bore no relationship to the question. Hon TOM STEPHENS

I am more than happy today to give an answer to the question that the Leader of the Opposition might want to ask tomorrow, because it will be the same answer. I will look at any proposition put forward by local councils and other government and non-government organisations who might recommend or suggest joint ventures for which I have a fund to build housing and they have available land. I do not have any specific land targets. However, I am interested to hear from local councils anywhere across Western Australia. As the member knows, when he was at the Cue parliament recently the Yalgoo and Sandstone Shire Councils happily embraced the opportunity of a joint venture for their communities such as that which I am making available to any council anywhere in this State. Hon N.F. Moore: Do you know what blocks of land cost in Sandstone? Hon TOM STEPHENS: I am not offering to buy the land. I am asking local councils and others to identify land out of the goodness of their hearts. I am advised that successive Governments over many years have succeeded in positioning in the areas the subject of the question some 1 600 Department of Housing and Works dwellings that are still in use. This is therefore not a new strategy on my part as Minister for Housing and Works. It is simply that the accumulating demands continue to put pressure on me, and therefore the community of Western Australia, to respond to those needs. I am sure that every member of the House would join with me in the desire to access accommodation on good transport corridors, close to facilities such as hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, for the disabled, the elderly and people who need access to affordable accommodation. I would hope that no member would be out of step with the Leader of the National Party on that issue.
