I refer the Minister to an answer provided in the Legislative Assembly on the June 16 this year to a question on the Rottnest Island Taskforce and new works on the Island, and I ask -
For an itemised breakdown, and the dates paid, of the expenses of the Rottnest Island Taskforce in reference to the figure of $273 800?
(1) Is the wind turbine project referred to the same wind turbine project that was suspended by this Government for the duration of the Taskforce?
(2) Has any State Government Department, Agency or Administered Authority any outstanding liabilities or exposure if the wind turbine project were to be scrapped?
(3) If yes to (3), please provide an itemised breakdown of this exposure?
(4) What was the total amount of money spent on the wind turbine project prior to the projects’ suspension?
(5) Please explain how your quoted estimated cost of $30 million was arrived at for providing water and power to Rottnest Island through a link from Garden Island given that the Taskforce report states that the cost of this project would be approximately $11 million?

The revision will see a new looking wind turbine and control system installed to include two special low load diesel generators and dynamic grid interface technology. This has the potential to achieve savings on diesel fuel of up to $485,000 in 2005 and $765,000 by 2024. The installation of the low load diesels has been funded by the State Government as part of our $20 million commitment to implement the findings of the Rottnest Island Taskforce (2) Not applicable ? the Wind Turbine Project is not being scrapped. (3) Please refer to (2). (4) $392,345 (5) The Member is referred to pages 47 and 59 of the Rottnest Island Taskforce Report. On page 47 it is noted that the expected capital cost on current projections of laying a power cable from Garden Island to Rottnest is $11 million. On page 59 the expected capital costs on current projections for laying a water pipeline from Garden Island to Rottnest is estimated at $18 million. Therefore, the option of sourcing power and water for Rottnest from Garden Island, according to Taskforce costing is about $30 million as the Minister suggested.
