I refer to the Geraldton-Greenough Rifle Club's North West Districts Rifle Association (NWDRA) competition on the weekend of August 9, and I ask: (a) What process does a club need to take to have an event approved or not approved; (b) What consultation took place for this event from your office; (c) In the case of the recent NWDRA event, what were the issues that forced the event to be temporarily cancelled; and (d) What changes were made to the event plan, to allow the event to go ahead?

(a)   During their Transitional Period, an appropriately licensed/approved club may conduct events of their own volition with no approval process required from the WA Police Force Licensing Services team.
(b)   None.
(c)   Correspondence from the Licensing Services Clubs and Ranges Team was sent to the Geraldton-Greenough Rifle Club (GGRC) outlining considerations that would need to be addressed for the GGRC range to transition to a Club or Range Licence under the Firearms Act 2024 . This correspondence was coincidental to their scheduled event. The GGRC cancelled the event themselves following receipt of this correspondence.
(d)   On 6 August 2025, Licensing Services contacted GGRC, after which GGRC independently decided to reinstate the event.
