(a) [See tabled paper no.]
(b) There were 10,366 participants in 2017-18; 10,170 participants in 2018-19. To date in 2019-20, there have been 8,909 participants, noting that:
(a) Not all cadet units have reported on participation numbers for Semester 2 2019, and
(b) Once Semester 1 2020 participant numbers are provided to the Department of Communities (Communities), a more accurate figure will be available for 2019-20.
(c) Cadets WA has been a State Government youth development program operating in Western Australia since 1996 which started as a trial in 11 schools and has now expanded to nearly 200 cadet units throughout the State from Wyndham to Esperance.
The program enhances young people’s ability to lead a productive lifestyle with improved problem solving and positive decision making.
Cadets WA offer career pathways (in particular those students in regional and remote communities) to local Governments, Bush Rangers and Emergency Services roles
Youth development is promoted through the participation of school-aged cadets in a range of activities that develop independence, leadership and life skills; as well as a sense of identity, civic responsibility and community belonging.
