I refer to social housing across the State, and I ask : (a) What responsibility is there for the relevant department to check in on tenants by means of following up on their situation or through rental inspections; (b) How often does the relevant department conduct rental inspections for these properties; and (c) What education is provided to tenants to ensure they understand the responsibilities of being a tenant?

a) The Department of Housing and Works has assigned officers for tenants to discuss situations with at any time, not just at inspections. Officers can (with tenant s consent) refer them to relevant support providers and programs that are designed to assist in sustaining tenancies such as Thrive.
b) The Department of Housing and Works inspects all tenanted properties annually. Additional visits may also occur t roughout the year where further support may be required.
c) Tenants are provided information when signing the tenancy agreement at occupation and they receive a copy of their rights and responsibilities in the agreement.
