JOHN WILLCOCK COLLEGE
393. Hon DARREN WEST to the Minister for Education:
I refer to Geraldton
middle school, John Willcock College.
(1) What plans are
currently being considered for the future of this school?
(2) Is the minister aware that the parents
and citizens association is not
supportive of an amalgamation with Geraldton Senior College?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The Department of Education is examining
secondary schooling provision in Geraldton and is considering future options.
(2) No; they have not raised this matter with
me. Having said that, I am aware that there is some dissent and that was raised
at the Western Australian Council of State School Organisations conference on the weekend. But I have also
been to Geraldton on a number of occasions and I am aware that there are some
real issues there over whether we amalgamate the two schools or keep one
separate as a dedicated site and do something with the capital upgrade of John
Willcock in particular. I will be going to Geraldton again in about three weeks
and will be visiting John Willcock College specifically.
