Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital—Emergency department
940. Hon Anthony Spagnolo to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health Infrastructure:
I refer to the
upgrade and redevelopment of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital's emergency
department, first announced by a Labor Government in July 2020 with a budget of
$19 million but never commenced and then reannounced by the Cook government earlier
this year with a revised budget of $50 million.
(1) Is it true that this expansion will result in
a net gain of just two emergency department treatment pods?
(2) If no to (1), are there any additional
treatment pods included in the expansion?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following on
behalf of the Minister for Health Infrastructure.
The honourable
member's question makes a number of incorrect assertions, including that the
project has not commenced. The emergency department project commenced in early
2025.
(1) No.
(2) There will be an expanded number of treatment
beds, now totalling 25 beds.
