AIRPORT
RAIL PROJECT
335. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Minister for Transport's comments on
Channel Nine news that the government is ''in the process of working out
what is the best possible route'' for the airport rail line.
(1) What route
was used to establish the estimated cost of $2.015 billion for the proposed
airport rail line?
(2) Why is the
previously announced route not acceptable?
(3) What changes
are being considered to the previously proposed route?
(4) What impact
will the delay in finalising the route have on the completion of the project
definition plan?
(5) What
consultation on the new route will be undertaken?

AnswerView source ↗

On behalf of the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Transport, I thank the member for some
notice of this question.
(1) The route
used was a spur from the Midland line down Tonkin Highway, then heading north
east from beyond Stanton Road into the domestic airport precinct.
(2) The premise
of this question is not correct. The route variations are marginal and various
options are being examined to determine the best value-for-money outcome for
the state.
(3) See (2).
(4) Nil.
(5) In accordance
with the required planning and development approvals, consultation will occur
as it does with all major public infrastructure projects.
