I refer to the new pictorial length signage required for RAV vehicles from 1 July 2024, and I ask: (a) Was industry consulted in relation to this signage? If so, how was this consultation carried out; (b) As Industry has been advised that signage is available for $35 per sign, please can the Minister advise retail outlets selling signs at this price; and (c) Given the negative feedback from industry, will Main Roads persist with this signage requirement?

(a)-(c) The Heavy Vehicle Road Signage Reference Group, chaired by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport, brought together eight representatives from different areas of the road transport industry to consider the implementation of new graphic signage which depicts the lengths of road trains.
It was determined that operators can choose between the existing ‘Long Vehicle’ and ‘Road Train’ signs, or new graphic signage. I note that a number of transport operators have adopted the new graphic signage.
