The member would have been dying to
ask this question for a long time.
Before I start, I welcome back to
the chamber the former member for Churchlands. I also welcome whoever is the
student member for Dawesville.
A member interjected.
Dr
K.D. HAMES : I look forward to them becoming the member for Dawesville in
the future. That would be very good. Today the Minister for Mines and Petroleum
and I made a joint announcement about the progress of Harvey Hospital. The
member will be very pleased to know that a contract has been awarded for
construction to a company called Cockram Construction Ltd. Member, the work
will start this month. It has been a long time coming. As the member knows,
there have been hiccups along the way to do with aged accommodation in the area
and budgets for that particular program. But it is finally underway. We will be
building a new emergency department and outpatient clinic at a cost of $13 million
to provide for much greater care to the people of Harvey and surrounding areas.
I congratulate the member for Murray–Wellington for his persistent —
Mr
R.H. Cook interjected.
Dr
K.D. HAMES : He has been enormously persistent, as some members in this
house are aware he can be, and we have delivered on that promise.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Murray–Wellington, I call you to order for the
first time; Member for Collie–Preston, for the first time. If you want
to discuss it between yourselves, go outside.
