DANGEROUS SEX OFFENDERS
843. Mr J.R. QUIGLEY to the Premier:
I refer to the release today of
Alwyn Wayne Brown, a repeat child sex offender, and the government's
repeated failure to introduce its promised legislative reforms, even after the
opposition brought this to the attention of the government in 2012, and as
recently as last month.
(1) Has the
government's inaction on this important matter left the community in
danger of further incidents?
(2) When will the
much-needed amendments that the Attorney General promised would be introduced
last year be brought before the Parliament?
(3) Will the
Premier today release the report that he commissioned last year?

(1)–(3)
It is almost always the case that dangerous sex offenders will ultimately be
released from custody, and in this case I understand that the offender has 51
conditions attached to his release. That is true, and great measures are taken
to ensure that a released offender will not be a threat to the community, and
those conditions will be applied. On the question relating to the legislation,
it is intended that the legislation will be introduced during this session of
Parliament, and I hope it receives the support of all members.
