POLICE — OPERATION SWEEP — DETECTIVES
827. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the
Minister for Police:
I have a supplementary question. Is Operation Sweep not just
the same number of police officers logging in under a new label; and, if so,
why should we not call it ''Operation Spin'' rather than
Operation Sweep?

The short answer is no. The member for Midland cannot resist
bagging out the efforts of police officers. They are working harder than ever
before. The Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner of Police assure me that
they have all of the resources they require to respond to this. They have all
the resources they need. We have another recruit graduation school coming
through within the next couple of weeks and more police officers on the road.
This is not a resourcing issue; the commissioner has reassured me of that. If
he needs more resources, he knows he can come to the Liberal–National
government and we will give it to him because we have got the record of
delivering when the police need it.
