The following are the terms of reference for the former Western Australian Child Protection Council (WACPC): · To promote the coordination and exchange of expertise and information between representatives of government and non-government agencies involved in the provision of chid protection services · To provide the Government of Western Australia through the Minister for Community Development with advice with respect to the prevention and treatment of child maltreatment · To promote and encourage research into the issues involved in the prevention and treatment of child maltreatment · To raise the level of awareness in the community of the issues surrounding child protection · To encourage and promote inter agency training on all matters relating to child protection. The term of WACPC concluded in September 2002 and the term of office for community representatives was completed. 2) (a) The last round of nominations was called for in November 2002 and resulted in the appointment in January 2003 of an independent Chairperson and six community representatives to the MACCP.
