I refer to the discovery of asbestos material in fourteen fire doors installed at the new Edith Cowan University campus in the CBD and, I ask: (a) has asbestos contaminated construction material been used or installed in other infrastructure projects built in Western Australia between 2021-25 that have been either partially or fully funded by the State Government; and (b) if yes to (a), which projects?

a-b)   A total ban on the manufacture, import and use of all forms of asbestos came into effect in Western Australia in December 2003.
Compliance with this ban relies on manufacturers following tightly controlled processes, which avoid asbestos or contamination with asbestos containing materials.  From time to time, manufacturers may identify a failure in these processes post-production.
This was the case when asbestos containing materials were identified in the braking system of a lift on the North Metropolitan TAFE Renewables Hub and Height Training Tower project, which was completed in 2025. The contractor was immediately instructed to replace the braking system, with replacement to occur in due course. In the interim, all safety and risk mitigation options have been implemented to ensure there is no risk to TAFE personnel or students.
