Department of the Premier and Cabinet advises:
(1a) Government Department and Agency expenditure on advertising placement for 2008-2009 was $28.1million.
(1b) Government Department and Agency expenditure on advertising placement for 2009-2010 was $19.9million.
(2) Including provision for media rate increases (averaging 3.5%), it is anticipated that total Government Department/Agency, 'controllable expenditure', through the Master Media Contracts in 2010-2011 will be less than $24.0million.
It's worth noting that in the financial year 2007-2008, the Labor Government spent $36.6million on Government advertising. In today's money, allowing for a conservative 3.5% annual increase in media costs, that would equate to $39.2million, or, 63.3% or $15.2million more than the projected outcome for the current financial year.
