1231. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the minister's
media statement of 11 August 2019 regarding a $5 million immediate action plan
to reduce violence and aggression in WA hospitals.
(1) Please provide a breakdown of
the $5 million allocated for immediate action.
(2) Has the public awareness
campaign commenced, and what is the cost of the campaign?
(3) Which regional hospitals will
benefit from an increase of security staff under the program?
(4) What is the total
number of security staff that will be employed or engaged under the immediate
action plan, and how many have been employed or engaged to date?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The Department
of Health is in the process of finalising the allocation of the $5 million to
each health service provider.
(2) The public
awareness campaign has not commenced and has an approved campaign budget of
$180 000.
(3) The
distribution of funds to specific regional sites for additional security staff
has not yet been confirmed and is dependent upon the finalisation of the
allocation of funds to each HSP.
(4) This
information has not been finalised. The distribution of funds for the
implementation of additional security measures across the HSPs, such as
increasing the number of security staff, is yet to occur.
