MINISTER
FOR TRANSPORT — CHINESE CONSULATE FUNCTION
35. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question —
Mr C.J. Barnett interjected.
The SPEAKER : I
call the Premier to order for the first time.
Mr M. McGOWAN : If
it was a social event, why did the Minister for Transport invite his business
partner to discussions with the Chinese consul general when his business
partner has business dealings in China, which potentially benefited the
minister?

Talk about trying to draw a long bow. It is pathetic. The
former Labor government was completely tied up with corruption inquiries about
its ministers. Every bloody two months there was another corruption inquiry. If
the Leader of the Opposition has any evidence at all of wrongdoing, please
present it to me by five o'clock this afternoon. Does the Leader of the
Opposition have any evidence? He should tell us about his meetings with
lobbyists. Tell us about meeting Noel Crichton-Browne to get dirt on me. I
never do those sorts of things. Talk about the sleazy comments today and the
opposition's so-called spokesperson on accountability. I can think of
no-one in this chamber who is less qualified to speak on accountability than
the member for West Swan! Do not come at us with this sort of rubbish. Provide
me with evidence, if the Leader of the Opposition has it; otherwise just stay
quiet.
