Kununurra Youth Night Space
514. Hon Neil Thomson to
the minister representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to the proposed
Kununurra Youth Night Space on Ivanhoe Road and comments from the Department of
Justice in an ABC online article published on 6 June regarding the
proposal.
(1) Who participated in the community
consultation process referred to by the Department of Justice?
(2) Were any residents or landowners from
Ivanhoe Road or River Farm Road or representatives of the Ord agricultural
industry included in the process?
(3) If no to (2), why not?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the Minister
for Corrective Services.
(1) There were community participants
from local, non-government and government organisations. Late-night
consultations were also undertaken with street-present young people.
(2) A public invitation was issued to
participate in the community consultation process as detailed below. The
department does not have a record of whether residents or landholders from Ivanhoe
Road or River Farm Road or representatives of the Ord agricultural industry
attended.
(3) Attendance at community co-design workshops
was voluntary. Stakeholders were invited to participate through a range of
channels, including the Kununurra Waringarri Aboriginal Corporation Facebook
page, Waringarri Media and LinkedIn and via Yajany Yarrawoo Ngoondebtha, a community-led
collective comprising local government and non-government organisations
facilitated by the East Kimberley Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
