NATURE TOURISM — CAPE PERON
1157. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Tourism:
(1) Does the
minister agree with the comments in an article in today's The West Australian , which are
attributed to the director general of the Department of Parks and Wildlife,
that the growing popularity of visiting natural areas is providing a boon for Western
Australia's regions?
(2) Does the minister agree that the
Rockingham area has significant growth potential for nature tourism?
(3) Is the
minister aware of the Cape Peron coastal park concept plan, which was launched
in 2012 and is based on a community vision for the area that has been expressed
over several decades?
(4) Does the
minister agree that clearing part of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park,
wet-dredging through Cape Peron peninsula and destroying seagrass and reducing
water quality in Cockburn Sound in order to build the proposed Mangles Bay
housing estate and marina would be at odds with the development of nature
tourism at that site?
