PUBLIC HOUSING —
EVICTIONS
930. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the minister representing the
Minister for Housing:
I refer to a community meeting in
Maddington on 12 August 2024 at which the Parliamentary Secretary to the
Minister for Housing said, ''We apply our three-strikes policy''.
(1) Why did the
Minister for Housing not say ''yes'' when asked whether the
three-strikes policy was still in effect in his answer to question without
notice 310 on 17 April 2024?
(2) Is the
three-strikes policy still in effect?
(3) Has the
minister modified the internal criteria for issuing a strike since he started
in the housing role?
(4) How many disruptive
behaviour complaints have been made each year since 2021?
(5) How many
public housing evictions have been applied for by the Department of Communities
with a magistrate each year since 2021?
(6) How many in
(5) were successful?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Housing.
(1)–(2) The
Department of Communities investigates disruptive behaviour and issues strikes
in accordance with its publicly available disruptive behaviour management
policy and the Residential Tenancies Act .
(3) No.
(4) Please refer
to the answer provided to Legislative Council question on notice 1849. It is
important to note that not all complaints constitute disruptive behaviour,
given that multiple complaints may be received for a single incident and by the
same complainant. Some complaints may be brought against properties not held by
the department or may be spurious.
(5) The answer is in tabular form
and I seek leave to have it incorporated into Hansard .
