STUDENT-CENTRED
FUNDING MODEL — SCHOOLS OF THE AIR
969. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to the student-centred funding model and the 25 per
cent cut in funding to Western Australia's five schools of the air.
(1) Were schools of the air stakeholders consulted over the
change to funding?
(2) Under the
new funding model, does the locality allowance for students at schools of the
air take into account the students' location or the school of the air's
location?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) Schools of
the air continue to be well funded compared with other primary schools, with
approximately $30 000 on average per student compared with approximately $12 000
on average per student in primary schools. The change in funding will be
implemented over a five-year period. Consultation will continue with the
principals of schools of the air to assist with the transition to the student-centred
funding model for the start of 2016.
(2) All
schools of the air receive a locality allocation through the student-centred
funding model. The locality allocation is provided to all schools with an
accessibility and remoteness index of Australia—ARIA—value of
2.4 or more, which reflects the location of the school.
