The Bushfire Zone Register, which the Member refers to, only relates to government schools. While the Catholic Education Office of WA (CEOWA) and the Association of Independent Schools WA (AISWA) continue to work collaboratively with Department of Education on related communication issues, the CEOWA and AISWA operate complementary information systems to oversee bushfire management strategies within the non-government schools sector.
The attached table lists schools on the Department's Bushfire Zone Register, [see tabled paper no].
Additional measures undertaken in respect of each school include:
The Department of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Fire and Emergency Services Authority, which will enable the Fire and Emergency Services Authority to address the reduction of bushfire risk around public schools listed on the Bushfire Zone Register through fuel load measurement, mapping, risk assessment, hazard reduction burning and physical mitigation works. The Memorandum of Understanding will remain in place for a period of three years, commencing on 1 July 2012.

The Department of Education has arranged for the installation of ember screens on evaporative cooling units at schools listed on the Department's Bushfire Zone Register by November 2012. The decision to proceed was made following research and a trial undertaken by Building Management and Works at two public schools.
Schools which are located in bushfire-prone areas will incorporate bushfire education in their curriculum plan.
All schools which are listed on the Bushfire Zone Register are required to report their compliance with Recommendation 10 of the
Keelty Report
(Bushfire Education) annually to the Department of Education.
