ALBANY HEALTH CAMPUS — NURSE SHIFTS
395. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Minister for Health:
I have a supplementary question. I take
it from the first part of the minister's answer that she is saying the
nurse should have actually just walked out. Does she agree with Janet Rae that
we need to have an overhaul of fatigue management in health care?

AnswerView source ↗

At no point did I say that. The
member is incorrect by verballing me in that way. At no point did I say that. I
said no-one should feel obliged to stay. No-one should feel they should stay.
No-one should be asked to stay for that long. I have just outlined the existing
and robust legislative framework, which is far more improved than it ever was
when the opposition was in government, to provide for safe workload practices.
I encourage anyone to refuse a shift that they feel is unsafe due to fatigue,
to escalate it to their manager, to escalate it to the union and to escalate it
to WorkSafe.
The SPEAKER : That concludes
question time.
