598. Hon MARTIN PRITCHARD to the minister
representing the Minister for Health:
(1) Can the
Minister for Health confirm that ward 5.3 at Bunbury Hospital at South West
Health Campus is presently closed?
(2) If yes to (1) —
(a) for how long has it been closed;
(b) how many beds were in this ward
when it was open; and
(c) is this ward currently being used
as a storeroom?
(3) Can the
minister confirm that immune-compromised cancer patients are being forced to
stay in mixed general wards due to the lack of single-bed rooms or a dedicated
cancer ward at the hospital?

I
thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. On behalf of the
minister representing the Minister for Health, I provide the following answer.
(1)
There is no ward 5.3 at Bunbury Hospital.
(2)
Not applicable.
(3) Immunocompromised patients are not placed in
shared rooms. The immune status of all cancer patients who are admitted to the
hospital is assessed on admission and daily throughout their admission to
determine whether they require isolation. Bunbury Hospital does not have a dedicated
cancer ward.
