Fuel security round table
117. Mr Peter Rundle to
the Premier:
The Premier has
convened a fuel security round table today, bringing together industry and
stakeholders, yet members of Parliament representing the regions experiencing
the most severe fuel shortages were not invited. Regional opposition electorate
offices are being inundated with calls from farmers, transport operators and
regional businesses that cannot access fuel. If the government genuinely wanted
to understand what is happening on the ground, why were members of Parliament
representing those communities excluded from the round table and denied the
opportunity to contribute to solving this crisis?

I thought it was
just a photo opportunity, according to members of the opposition. Now they want
to be invited to come along.
Ms Rita Saffioti: What is it?
Mr Roger Cook: What is it, member? Is this a cynical
photo-op, as you guys described it in the media today, or is this a genuine
attempt by the government to hear from people on the ground what they are
experiencing in their industries? That is why we have invited the Chamber of
Minerals and Energy of Western Australia, the Association of Mining and
Exploration Companies, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western
Australia, the Freight and Logistics Council, WAFarmers, the Pastoralists and
Graziers Association of WA, the Western Roads Federation, the Grower Group
Alliance, the Civil Contractors Federation, Australian Energy Producers, the Transport
Workers' Union of Australia, UnionsWA, Perth Airport, Qantas, Virgin, BP, 7-Eleven,
Burk Fuel, Ampol, ExxonMobil, Petro Fuels, Vibe, Viva Energy and the RAC. The
fuel security round table that we will hold today is an important opportunity
for the government to hear from people on the ground who understand what people
are experiencing and to make sure that we are in a position to respond to the
pressures as a result of both the peak in buying and the potential longer term
constraints to our global supply chains.
