Geraldton Port Maximisation Project
1009. Hon Julie Freeman to
the Minister for Ports:
I refer to the
Geraldton Port Maximisation Project.
(1) Has the works package been released?
(2) If no to (1), will it be released, as
anticipated, before the end of this year?
(3) Have environmental and regulatory approvals
for berth 1, the new tug harbour facility and berth 6 been achieved?
(4) If no to (3), when are those approvals
expected?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The Geraldton Port Maximisation
Project includes a number of discrete components, such as the delivery of a new
lease 11 truck unloader, the construction of a new berth 1, construction of a
new tug harbour and breakwater extension, as well as road upgrades. As with all
major port infrastructure projects, the complexity of each distinct component
of work necessitates a staged release of work packages to progress the project.
(3)–(4) Approvals for each project
component are sought as the work advances. Part IV approvals associated with
the tug harbour and breakwater extension are underway, with public appeals
currently being assessed by the Appeals Convener, noting that this question was
asked on 23 October and the answer is current as at that date. It is
anticipated that these approvals will be provided by late 2025 or early 2026.
