(b) The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) has allocated $3 million in its 2003/04 Budget and Formal Estimates for the Peel Deviation under the Peel Regional Scheme. (c) Main Roads is progressing the necessary planning for the project and funds have been allocated in its 2003/04 Budget and Forward Estimates for pre-construction works including : — Waterway analysis and preliminary bridge design. — Preparation for preliminary design for the Lake Road upgrade. — Final concept design report for Peel Deviation. — Development of Environmental Management Plans to address the conditions of the EPA approval. — Revision of the project cost estimates. (d) As I have discussed with the Peel Deviation stakeholder group, I believe, with Federal Government support a realistic timetable for commencement and completion would be 2008 - 2011.

(a) As the Member would be aware from my reply to his Question 239 of 22 October 2002, this Government is committed to progressing the development of the Peel Deviation. We came to Government with a commitment that we would allocate $5 million towards purchasing land for the project in our first term. Already seven properties have been purchased at a cost of $3.34 million comprising 112ha for the Peel Deviation.
