BreastScreen WA Joondalup
441. Hon Simon Ehrenfeld to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I
refer to the Standing Committee on Estimates and Financial Operations hearing with
the North Metropolitan Health Service on 11 March and the answers to my
questions on the lack of capacity in the BreastScreen WA Joondalup centre.
(1) If there was no
problem with getting people appointments, as the minister representing the Minister
for Health suggested, why has the government committed $4.4 million to
expand capacity at BreastScreen Joondalup?
(2) Will this budgeted
funding ensure that all patients who seek an appointment for breast screening
in Joondalup will be able to get one within a week of booking and, if not, what
will be the expected wait time with the additional funding?

Honourable member, the
question has been directed to the Minister for Health. I thank the honourable
member for his question and I provide the following answer on behalf of the
Minister for Health.
(1)–(2) This budget includes $4.4 million
for BreastScreen WA to deliver two additional assessment days per week at
Joondalup, supporting the sustainability of the assessment service for the next
two years. In recognition of demand, a mobile screening clinic is currently
located at Butler until December to provide additional appointments in the
northern corridor. Appointment availabilities and wait times may vary on a
weekly basis and are published on the BreastScreen WA website.
