Hon. Norm Kelly questions the use of Metropolitan Region Improvement Fund (MRIF) money for industrial development on properties not currently zoned for that purpose, and seeks details on MRIF spending on bushland purchases. Minister Foss confirms revenue will return to the fund, industrial development is proposed, cites an improvement plan as justification, and promises a written response regarding bushland purchases.

Some notice of this question has been given. Further to question without notice 244, asked yesterday - (1) Will all revenue, including profits from the sale of the 85 properties referred to, be returned to the metropolitan region improvement fund? (2) If not, how much revenue will be returned? (3) It is proposed that future use of these properties will be for industrial development? (4) As these properties are not currently zoned for industrial use, will the minister explain how MRIF moneys can be used for this purpose, as it appears to be a clear breach of section 38(3) of the Metropolitan Region Town Planning Scheme Act 1959? (5) How much MRIF money has been utilised for the purchase of privately-owned bush plan sites in - (a) 1998-99; (b) 1999-2000; and (c) so far this financial year? Hon PETER FOSS
