VAPES — ILLEGAL —
CRACKDOWN
1410. Hon SOPHIA MOERMOND to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the federal government's
ban on vapes and the similar regulations enacted in Western Australia.
(1) How many vape shops have closed in Western Australia
since the federal government changed the regulations ?
(2) How many
illegal vapes have been confiscated by Western Australia police since 31 October
2024?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Health.
(1) The sales of
vapes by general retailers is not lawful under Western Australian legislation
and there is no li cence or registration
scheme to sell vapes in Western Australia. For this reason, the Department of
Health does not have accurate statistics on the number of vape shops
operating at any time or the number that may have ceased supplying vapes since
the commonwealth vaping reforms of 1 July 2024.
(2) I request the
member to redirect the question to the Minister for Police.
