The Minister for Environment has provided the following response.
(1) As the member would be aware from the announcement of the project, there is no cost blow-out, rather the Government has supported a request by the Department of Parks and Wildlife to bring forward and aggregate the development of the site’s core facilities so they can be constructed in a single building rather than spread across the site in stages. The Government has also supported the Department’s request to create an extensively landscaped linkage between Koombana Bay and Leschenault Inlet, a visitor centre, an education centre and to prepare the building pads for the next two office buildings as part of the initial building construction works. These works will significantly enhance public amenity as well as reduce the cost of the future building stages.
(2) $200,000.
(3)-(4) The restoration and upgrading of the mangrove boardwalk will necessitate its temporary closure. Detailed scheduling of works to minimise public disruption will be undertaken when contractors have been appointed.
