An ACIL Allen Consulting report prepared for the Western Rock Lobster Council in December 2017 entitled “Economic contribution of the Western Rock Lobster industry” modelled the impact on jobs under a high export volume scenario of 8,800 tonnes. This modelling indicated that an export volume of 8,800 tonnes could create an additional 641 jobs. These additional jobs include those directly related to the fishery (fishing jobs and processing jobs), as well as indirect jobs (boat building, charter operations, hospitality and tourism sectors). Many of these jobs would be located in regional areas given the operation of the fishery. The Government proposal to increase the total allowable catch to 8,000 tonnes was expected to generate 500 jobs based on this modelling.
