I thank the member for some notice of this question. On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health, I provide the following answer - The amount spent on informing the community on the new cannabis laws - the fact that cannabis possession is illegal and its use harmful - and providing information about the cannabis education sessions was $80 801.56, including goods and services tax. There were two parts to the cannabis advertising. Part one advised Western Australians about the Cannabis Control Act 2003 and stated that the possession of cannabis is illegal and its use harmful. This part was funded by the State Government and cost $32 090.15, including GST, and $30 991.05, excluding GST. Part two advised Western Australians about the cannabis education sessions and reiterated that cannabis possession is illegal and its use harmful. This part was funded by the Commonwealth Government and cost $48 711.41, including GST, and $44 283.10, excluding GST. This advertising was spread across The West Australian , Xpress magazine, and entertainment and shopping centre bathroom locations.
