765. Dr EDWARDS to the Minister for Forest Products:
(1)
What is the minimum number and/or percentage of karri trees per hectare in mixed jarrah/marri/karri forest that CALM has deemed to constitute karri forest, which it then clearfelled and planted with karri seedlings?
(2)
Does CALM still engage in off-site planting of karri, that is, planting karri seedlings, in areas where karri had not previously been a dominant component, such as community-type Stewart?
(3)
How many hectares of mixed stands with less than 20% karri have been planted with karri seedlings -
(a)
since this practice began; and
(b)
in each of the last five years?
(4)
What are the names of forest blocks in which off-site planting of karri has been carried out?
(5)
Has CALM encountered problems with karri regrowth in its off-site planting, to which it was alerted by former CALM scientists Dr Grant Wardell-Johnson and Dr Per Christensen in their 1992 study of the effects of disturbance on the karri forest?
(6)
How many hectares of off-site karri planting have had to be replanted?
