1388. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Energy:
I refer to the consultative process
of engagement with government and non-government entities employed and utilised
by the Australian Energy Market Operator.
(1) Does AEMO take instructions or directions from
Energy Policy WA or the State Energy Commission of WA?
(2) What instructions or directions
does EPWA take from AEMO?
(3) If yes to (1) or (2), in what format,
circumstance, structure or methodology are these directives, suggestions or advice undertaken, relayed or proposed?
(4) Who or whom within EPWA or the State Electricity
Commission is authorised to communicate instructions or directions to
AEMO; and who within EPWA or the State Electricity Commission receives AEMO
instructions or directions?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Energy, I provide
the following answer.
(1) The Australian Energy Market Operator does not
take any instructions or directions from Energy Policy WA . AEMO implements the wholesale electricity market
rules that are administered by Energy Policy WA, and given effect under the
Electricity Industry Act 2004. The State Energy Commission of WA—SECWA— was
dissolved in 1995.
(2) Energy Policy
WA does not take any instructions or directions from AEMO.
(3)–(4) Not
applicable.
