TRANSPORT — SCHOOL BUS SERVICES
1075. Hon AMBER-JADE SANDERSON to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to orange school buses
administered by School Bus Services.
(1) How many times per year are
safety inspections undertaken on each bus?
(2) What, if any, changes to the
number of inspections have been made in the last eight years?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1) The current
Public Transport Authority inspection regime is as follows: one annual vehicle
inspection for all orange school buses that operate solely on bitumen roads;
one annual vehicle inspection for orange school bus services when the amount of
operation on unsealed road is less than 30 per cent of the total distance
travelled—a second inspection will be undertaken if the first
inspection identifies any issues; and two vehicle inspections per annum for all
orange school bus services operating in harsh and extreme conditions.
(2) The current
inspection regime was introduced in September 2013. Prior to this time, all
orange school buses were inspected twice a year.
